A day cream has one job: keep skin comfortable until evening.
Too many day creams feel lovely for an hour and then leave skin tight by lunchtime, or sit heavily under makeup. The difference usually comes down to how well the formula holds on to water, and how it feels while doing it.
This cream uses hyaluronic acid in two sizes, betaine and glycerin to draw water in, and shea and avocado to keep it there, in a velvety texture that sits well under SPF and makeup.

Hyaluronic acid, two ways
Hydrolysed hyaluronic acid and sodium hyaluronate · with a marine ferment
Hyaluronic acid holds many times its weight in water. The larger form, sodium hyaluronate, stays on the surface and forms a light, moisture-holding film. The smaller, hydrolysed form is light enough to work in the outer layers of the skin.
Alongside them, a marine ferment (Alteromonas) forms a light film on the skin's surface, and betaine and glycerin help draw water in. It's the kind of hydration you'll feel on day one.
What a 2011 hyaluronic acid trial measured
Pavicic et al., 2011, Journal of Drugs in Dermatology. 76 women aged 30–60, 0.1% hyaluronic acid creams around one eye twice a day for 60 days, against a plain cream around the other. Our formula contains a small form (hydrolysed hyaluronic acid) and a larger one (sodium hyaluronate); our concentrations aren't published.

Hyaluronic acid
76 women aged 30–60 applied 0.1% hyaluronic acid creams around one eye twice a day for 60 days, with a plain cream around the other.
Every molecular weight improved hydration and elasticity. The two smallest also reduced measured wrinkle depth.

Alteromonas ferment extract
A marine sugar tested on skin cells exposed to UVB, and on volunteers' skin before exposure to fine dust particles.
It reduced UV-linked damage to cell fats, and at 0.02% cut particles sticking to skin by 45% against placebo.
The authors work for a company that makes it. We don't know if our grade is the one tested.
Aloe vera
20 women used creams with 0.10–0.50% freeze-dried aloe on the forearm daily for two weeks.
Every aloe concentration raised the water content of the skin's outer layer.
