Fragrance-Free Sensitive Skin Moisturiser
Why sensitive skin gives up on moisturisers

When every cream stings, look at what was added.

People with sensitive skin describe stinging, burning or itching from products that shouldn't cause it. Many moisturisers still contain perfume, and fragrance is one of the most common causes of allergy to cosmetics. In a US study of best-selling moisturisers, 45% of those labelled fragrance-free still contained a plant extract or ingredient that can set off a fragrance allergy.

This moisturiser has no Parfum, no essential oils and no ingredient from the EU fragrance allergen list. Its plant ingredients are aloe, jojoba, bush mango butter and a red algae extract, and they're all named below.

Fragrance-Free Sensitive Skin Moisturiser
How it works

Water drawn in, then gently held there

Aloe Barbadensis · Glycerin · Sodium PCA · Simmondsia Chinensis

Dehydrated skin is short of water, not necessarily of oil. Humectants pull water into the skin's outer layer: here that's organic aloe juice, glycerin in second place and sodium PCA, part of the natural moisturising factor your skin makes itself. Jojoba oil and light plant-derived emollients then soften the surface and slow water loss without a heavy film.

It is deliberately short on extras: no fragrance, no essential oils, no strong actives. For skin that reacts easily, that means fewer ingredients known to cause trouble. It can't promise your skin won't react, and no cream can.

The research

What studies show about each ingredient.

These studies test an ingredient, usually in a different product. They explain why each ingredient is in this moisturiser. They are not results for this moisturiser.

Sensitive skin

Chen, Dai & Li, 2020 · Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (meta-analysis)
What was tested

26 surveys covering 51,783 people in 18 countries.

What they found

71% said their skin was sensitive to some degree, and 40% said it was moderately or very sensitive.

What it doesn't prove

Self-reported, and definitions varied between surveys. It says nothing about which products help.

Fragrance allergy

Diepgen et al., 2015 · British Journal of Dermatology
What was tested

3,119 randomly chosen adults in Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal and Sweden were patch tested.

What they found

1.9% had a fragrance allergy that mattered in daily life. It was about twice as common in women as in men.

What it doesn't prove

Most people aren't allergic to fragrance. Fragrance-free lowers one risk; it can't rule out every reaction.

Glycerin

Fluhr, Darlenski & Surber, 2008 · British Journal of Dermatology (review)
What was tested

A review of research on glycerol and the skin.

What they found

Glycerol improves hydration of the outer layer and supports barrier function.

What it doesn't prove

A review. Our glycerin percentage isn't published.

Aloe vera

Dal'Belo et al., 2006 · Skin Research and Technology
What was tested

20 women used creams with 0.10–0.50% freeze-dried aloe on the forearm daily for two weeks.

What they found

Every aloe concentration raised the water content of the skin's outer layer.

What it doesn't prove

A small forearm study of a cream. It says nothing about lines or cleansing.

Sodium PCA

Clar & Fourtanier, 1981 · International Journal of Cosmetic Science (review)
What was tested

A review of research on PCA, the largest single part of the skin's own natural moisturising factor.

What they found

Creams with at least 2% PCA or PCA salt improved dry skin.

What it doesn't prove

An older review, much of it the authors' own work. Our percentage isn't known.

Hyaluronic acid

Pavicic et al., 2011 · Journal of Drugs in Dermatology
What was tested

76 women aged 30–60 applied 0.1% hyaluronic acid creams around one eye twice a day for 60 days, with a plain cream around the other.

What they found

Every molecular weight improved hydration and elasticity. The two smallest also reduced measured wrinkle depth.

What it doesn't prove

A different cream. Our concentration isn't published.

Fragrance-free, and here's what that meansTexture ● ○ ○ · a light cream that sinks in

No Parfum, no essential oils, and no ingredient from the EU fragrance allergen list, including the expanded list that has applied to new products since 31 July 2026. You may notice a faint natural smell from the aloe and jojoba; nothing is added to create or hide it.

Fragrance-free lowers one common cause of reactions. It can't rule out all of them. If your skin is very reactive, patch test on your inner forearm once a day for five days before using it on your face.
